Criteria for Awarding a Teaching License (Menkyo) in Wa Shin Ryu Jujutsu

A teaching license may be awarded in Wa Shin Ryu Jujutsu by any approved Sensei who has received at least his/her Level II (Chuden Menkyo) teaching license and the rank of Yodan in Wa Shin Ryu Jujutsu and is Head Instructor of his/her own Wa Shin Ryu Jujutsu Club/Class. However, Menkyo Kaiden may only be awarded by the current Soke of the system.

A license (Menkyo) may be awarded to students who satisfy ALL the following criteria:

1. Student has achieved the appropriate rank level. That is, Nidan or Sandan for Shoden Menkyo (Level I),Yodan or Godan for Chuden Menkyo (Level II) and Rokudan or Shichidan for for Okuden Menkyo (Level III). For Menkyo Kaiden (Level IV) a student must have achieved a minimum dan rank of Hachidan.

2. Student has teaching experience and demonstrates effective teaching ability
3. Student demonstrates loyalty to the system and the sensei
4. Student is committed to teaching and passing on the philosophy, techniques and strategies of Wa Shin Ryu Jujutsu in their purest form
5. Student is committed to adhering to the integrity of the system
6. Student wears the Wa Shin Ryu tattoo on left forearm
7. Student must be of impeccable character

NOTE: Dan ranks are minimal prerequisites, only. Uchideshi status is NOT required to receive a teaching license except in the case of Menkyo Kaiden. Students who do not continue to practice, study, maintain contact with their Sensei or fail to remain true to the system by switching arts and/or accepting rank from an instructor in another jujutsu system will forfeit their Teaching License and may not continue to teach the system of Wa Shin Ryu Jujutsu.
