IN MEMORIAM

Dr. Sachio Ashida

It is with much regret that I annouce the death of my sensei, Dr. Sachio Ashida. Dr. Ashida passed away on June 22nd 2010 in Brockport, New York. He was 85 years old. Words cannot do justice to this amazing man. Suffice it to say that he was a major force in my life, an amazing judoka and jujutsuka and a great teacher. He contributed greatly to the development of judo in the United States and was one of the few remaining great masters who practised judo the way Jigoro Kano intended it to be. His spirit and teachings will live on in our hearts and minds for ever.

Dr. Simon Attle

I regret to announce the death of Dr. Simon Attle who passed away in November of 2008. Simon was among my first students at UConn. He studied with me for several years and achieved the rank of 2nd Dan in judo while earning a Ph.D. at the same time. Simon was a gifted individual with many talents and his passing has been deeply felt by all his friends and students. Simon, you will always be fondly remembered.
