It is proposed that ITMA offer three levels of Instructor Teaching Certification to correspond to the following ranks and teaching experience (and their equivalents):  

Nidan and Sandan: Instructor (Menkyo Shoden)
Yodan and Godan: Senior Instructor (Menkyo Chuden)
Rokudan and higher: Master Instructor (Menkyo Kaiden)

Requirements for ITMA Menkyo Shoden Teaching Certification:

1. For Menkyo Shoden, 3 years of teaching experience. Must hold a minimum rank of Nidan
2. Teaching supervision under the guidance of a Yodan holder, or higher, who already holds a Menkyo Chuden Teaching License
3. Be a member of ITMA
4. Be approved by two members of the National/International Board of Advisers
5. Be approved by the Director of ITMA
6. Hold appropriate rank as indicated above and relevant teaching experience
