DOJO ETIQUETTE IN WA SHIN RYU JUJUTSU

General

1. All students and instructors will perform a standing bow when entering and leaving the dojo
2. All students and instructors will perform a standing bow when stepping on and off the mat
3. Students arriving late will wait on the edge of the mat until invited to step on by the Sensei or one of the black belts
4. Zori must be worn to and from the mat.

Lining Up

1. Students (mudansha) will line up with the highest ranking student to the left of Sensei and the instructors
2. Sensei and black belts will line up in corresponding rank order facing the students

Opening Ceremony

1. Sensei will call class to attention by saying Kiotsuke (attention)
2. Then, "Seiza" (kneel)
3. Sensei will then instruct class with an usss.... sound and the class will perform the hand ritual that symbolizes the concept that the system is an integrated unity of distance, close quarter and ground fighting
4. Instructors will then turn to their right and face Kamiza (place of honor where our Wa Shin Ryu logo and Kanji are set up) and Sensei will then instruct the class to bow in with the command "Shomen Ni Rei" (shomen ni means "front direction")
5. The instructors will then turn to their left and face the students and Sensei will instruct the class with the command "Sensei Ni Rei"
6. Sensei will then instruct the class to meditate with the command "Mokuso"
7. Upon completing the meditation phase Sensei will then say "Yame"

Closing Ceremony

1. Repeat 1 and 2 above
2. While facing the students Sensei will say "Sensei Ni Rei" and students and instructors will bow to each other
3. Instructors will then turn to their right and face Kamiza (where our Wa Shin Ryu logo and Kanji are set up) and Sensei will then instruct the class to bow with the command "Shomen Ni Rei"
4. The instructors will then turn to their left and face the students and Sensei will instructt the class with an usss.... sound and the class will perform the hand ritual that symbolizes the concept that the system is an integrated unity of distance, close quarter and ground fighting
